The name gua sha (pronounced gwah-shah) comes from the Chinese word for scraping. Gua sha is a technique used in traditional East Asian medicine, to treat muscle pain and tension. The techneque aims to move energy, known as qi or chi, around the body using a tool to apply pressure and scrape the skin. When these techniques are used on the face, it can help to relieve muscle tension, decrease puffiness, and increase circulation. Good circulation helps with the integrity of our skin, increases elasticity, and helps our skin to repair itself... all good things!
